Delazy - Nice tunnel. Is the RX7 box really that much bigger than a W5*?

Hen - Series 5 turbo boxes and the like do tend to quite sizeable...

As far as fitting a 13B goes, it depends on what model. Series IV engines onwards use side mounts which would probably be able to be modified to suit an AE86 crossmember, whereas the earlier 12As and 13Bs used mounts off the front of the oil pump cover. When fitting a Series IV or V engine to an old chassis like an RX2, 3 or 4 I used to just get my hands on an old 'front-mount' oil pump cover and whack it on, mating it to the old style crossmember. I can't remember if there was a specific cover to use, but 12A turbo rings a bell.
The SIV and V engines also used a mid-sump from memory, so likewise, I just used to use a sump off an RX4 13B or something. obviously the pickup will also need to be swapped to suit.

Low centre of gravity is one benefit of a rotary transplant, but if you are going to buy an engine budget a few grand for a rebuild as well.

Oh... btw - don't listen to all these other "cross-breeding" (lol!) comments. Variety is the spice of life, and a nicely tuned 13B will eat any 4AGE you're going to find on these shores.

Thanks for all the help so far guys. Work will commence as soon as my boss' shed is up. Should start in about a month in other words. Looking at late model 13bt, but i'll see what i can find with low mileage.

would be a good conversion as it wouldnt affect the balance of the car and the high reving rotor would be great for drifting

sorry to dig up an old thread, but i'd really like the input of some experts on this
everyone on this forum is more than happy to give thier 2 cents (well some actually give you a few hundred bucks worth) on the topic of certain engine conversions in ae86s and how they can put more weight over the front etc, it's all well covered stuff, with the current batch of engine conversions that pop up these days, the majority involve larger, later model engines in older cars, so the topic of more weight in front end has been done to death.

what i would like to know is what happens when you take weight off the front end with a conversion similar to this rotor ae (well to be honest thats prob the only time you'l lose weight in an engine conversion, is when you go from piston to rotor), what sort of effects can you expect, i know it's all a bit 'theory with no practical work' but i'm interested.
as a guess i'd imagine you'd gain a bit more of a steering feel like a mid engined car, ok, so what i mean is lighter steering than would currently be a 4ag ae86, which sometime isn't a desirable thing...
any thoughts and input on this would be much appreciated..
    thanks for your time

How much weight are you pulling off the front? Drift car or circuit car?

There really won't be much difference in feel of car when you adjust the suspension to suit unless you remove lots of mass.
