Yeah possibly, just there are quite a few things about sr's that i don't like.

I'm sure they could be tuned to be quite responsive but this isnt a common focus when tuning them a lot of the time. Another thing to keep in mind is do you honestly need 270rwkw? I'm thinking not. there is that sr hachi and I think its a near stock motor with a fmic and ecu or something along those lines and that's incredibly fast. How much power dose beau have?

I agree the potential for endless power as even in Australia I have seen them reach 1000hp (some gay blue drag monster s15).

I think that it wouldn't be half as bad if you recessed the motor into the fire wall a few inchs, you would probaly have a better balance than factory.

You will be pushing shit up a hill to get the weight down to 900kg, with the motor box and hilux or equally heavy diff..

I think your being sensible with learning how to steer it with a 4ag to start with. Learn to really steer and not just use your right foot because you have dose.

    <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (ae71 @ Mar 19 2008, 12:30 PM) </div>lol...and all those reasons are why I'm NOT putting a SR20 in...my post was more so showing u WHY to go one over a 3sgte

900kg is fairly easy....perspex/lexen windows are easily accessable both locally and from japan off the shelve and FRP hatch and doors are only a container away....all of which i have access to.....along with other pretty obvious weight reduction modifications

but the question is "would i go that far??" which i can't answer yet as i honestly have no idea how the car is goin to be once i finish the mk 1 build as ive never been in a well built 20v ae86...i might like it, or i may decide I'm bored, get life insurance and install a stupidly overpowered engine

the build will be incredibly sensible....i mean the first mod i ever bought was fcs3 brake setup and before i sees anything more than a 4ac in the engine bay itll have full suspension package and full cams cage.....

oh and on the responsiveness of a SR20....u obviously havent been in any "tuned" ones....ive been in both the GTgarage cars on the track and the street and they are both pushing near on 300rwkw and the response in both of them is amazing considering the power levels they are pushing....nicks in particular was running 28psi and making fullboost at around 4000rpm from memory....

    thats good to hear.

just to clarify i ment responsive, not where boost comes on.

id think that an sr would be a cheaper option which as you said much much easier to get parts for as its probaly the most popular motor to come in an import.

i know there is a huge thing about 86's not needing heaps of power, but take eugenes 180sx for example that weights under a ton I'm pretty sure and thats got over 300kw from a fully built 2.8ltr sr20det (or so ignition tells me)

so whats the difference? i mean theres not much point having a 260kw sr20 if you can't use it, but if you can (beau has 260kw from his beams 3sgte) why the fuck not!

this car will be awesome however delazy builds it, and I'm sure if he learns to steer like joash, brendo and the best of the tassie boys it will cause quite a stir in the local series!

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (KE35_Kid @ Mar 20 2008, 01:03 PM) </div>it will be sick....but being competitive isnt something I'm worrying about...I'm building the car for me and also building its how i think a jap styled car should be built which is rarely ever seen in tassie.....my other build goal is to show some of the nissan boys that u dnt need huge horsepower to be quick or drift....

what i was trying to say it you can see what can be done with a standard 4age, not that much more power would be needed from that to be quite competitive. 160kw would be huge! I'm sure that beau dosent quite use all that power, although he seems to be able to put it to good use (more speed for earlier entries etc), doing thing rarely seen in an 86..

I can't wait to see this car when its had some jdm love, should be one of the best jap cars in Tassie, I would also like to drive this road up north, sounds like a good piece of road.
