No offence, but if you have to ask some of those questions then perhaps an IRS converison on an 86 isnt for you? Just a thought.
[SAMS EDIT] all AE/KE IRS conversion questions in here
Hey guys iv got an R32 GTS-T diff cradle and whole rear end set up sitting around that i want to put in the sprinter along with the s13 front end and convert the front end to 5 stud also. has anyone done an IRS conversion? what are the weight differences? the 32 rear end looks like it will weigh more but not sure. what are the effects to the cars handling etc?, dont care too much about legalities at this stage but any info you guys know would be awesome, iv done a search on a few different forums but not able to uncover much.
cheers heaps![]()

nah thats fair enough, i was just seeing if anyone could speak from experience as more often than not things in theory are completely different to the real applications.
it will work...
but just lots of work to do...
ae86's are good because of live axles...
if you have a IRS supra, carrina, corona, maybe we could understand as 80's Toyota IRS is a PITA, but 86...
if you do the work your self... get a rear end with lsd for next to nothing... ok with having +80/100mm extra track on the rear (means if you run say 15x8's your wheels will be a good distance from the body. and prob not going to drive it on the road... then go for it.
but you could spend the money in better places.
heaps of extra weight, easy 100kg.
extra work to fit s13/r32 coil overs...
yeah.
hmmm maybe the HiLux option will be the way to go, stick with live rear axle. still doing lots of research at this stage
Carbonae86 has done it in a sprinter.
I start mine tomorrow in my KE panno.
i saw the full nissan conversion on a grey/black sprinter in england. its on here somewhere.. and looks like alot of work.
mmm it would be alot of work and im wondering whether maybe it wouldnt be that much of an advantage that it would be worth it
there is extra weight, no where near 100kgs tho, and the best part is that it is unsprung weight.
loads of work. seen it done, it can work really well. just needs time and set up time
thorpey, wat are the plans for the car? hilux will be overkill for most engine combos...f series is just a strong and also lighter making it a better option...just harder to track down i guess...
