    Default 4AGE CONRODS

    1983 ae86 leven

    4age turbocharged.
Currently running the largest factory small port rods atm think 27mm wide 14mm thick from memory.
They look the part but in the end they are still a stock rod so dont want to push it to hard.

Will be running e85 and 25plus psi so want something that can take the punishment only reving to max 8000rpm

    question regarding forged conrods

    any suggestions on brands

i no spool make 4age rods but have heard they are made in china now and now not the quality they used to be?
Plus i keep seeing this maxspeedrods brand but to me seems like a $2.00 brand but not shore

    cheers matt

Smallport rods are massive and like all Toyota's rods they are forged, I can't see any amount of boost bending one. Normally it's only revs that kill rods unless their seriously thin like on a ford.

Maxspeedrods are definately cheap china rods, I would avoid them. How about Belfab?

When I first built it my tuner said the rods will be good but i always have that thought in my mind that they will throw!
were would i be able to get belfab rods from?

Ive built many engines and will defiantly agree that toyota over engineer all there internals.
And for a 1.6L engine the rods are massive compared to alot of bigger engines ie Xr8 Engines Gee iii And so on.
has any one got any stats on how hard they have pushed factory rods?

    Boost and power figures?

I used USA made Crowers, not cheapest option but well made.

Also everyone knocks BT rods, but are infact the strongest of the stock rods.......where it counts Those Toyota engineers DO KNOW what they're doing

Everyone says they're piss weak but I've seen em buzzed to stupid rpm and all good, the failures I have heard of have been down to neglect, lack of oil etc.

alot of the spool/maxspeedrods/other names i cant think of atm are all the same rods....or were when i did the investigations sometime back....belfab were the stand out reasonable $$$ ones for me....were also the lightest 7afe rods i could find without outlaying big $$$ for pauter

still cant get the stock feeling out of my head i will almost defiantly be running 30psi plus
the AE has been off the road for about a year now so really cant be fd having to pull it down and rebuild again if it does have a rod failure.
might sus out those pauter rods.

Have had success with crower rods before haven't had any failures yet evan in sr's when the sleeves shift they were probably my first option for this build
trying to make big power without a stroke or rpm advantage is going to be fun

cheers fellas anymore suggestions would be appreciated.
