Toyota Cressida MX83 / JZS171 VVTI (jzx110)

This started as an impulse buy back in Janruary this year from eBAY









Originally I contacted the seller as I wanted to have a look at it, but got caught up with work and ended up letting it go. The auction finished and the buyer didn't contact the seller so a week later I got the call asking if i was still interested in it.

A quick chat to the guy, and I was there with my brother to bring it home the following weekend. The family i bought it off must think cressidas are the only cars you are allowed to buy because the 2 of the kids had them, the old man had 2 and the wife also had one.

I took it down for a blueslip a couple of weeks ago with the 7m in it and it was failed due to an exhaust and oil leak , which turned out to be a missing gasket after the headers and the sump plug washer was worn out. So I dumped the oil into a clean container, replaced the sump plug washer and put it back in again.

I have the blueslip and rego now sorted.

I bought a jzs171 engine thinking it was a jzx100 without really looking into it too much...



But I think aside from the etcs-i sensors breaking, I think this engine will be an easier install than the jzx100 as all the throttle body stuff is integrated into the ecu. If i get speed sensors , there is no real reason why i can't wire in the traction control as well.

I've managed to find the JZS171 ecu pinouts... They are the same as the jzx110.



The 7m was removed over the weekend.




It definately has a blown headgasket.



or a closer look. Yep that is the tip of the spark plug sticking out of the chocolate milkshake.



Though the oil out of the sump, whilst black was normal and the coolant was normal. I haven't managed to get the cam covers off yet, as a bead of what looks like toyota sump sealant has been run around it and the dizzy had the same.

I'll probably pull it down to assist with easy disposal, but if anyone wants the 7m sing out.

I also managed to source an LSD diff as well and I spent about an hour last night tracing the loom and i'm happy to the point where i'll be able to start the car now once the 1j goes in. Just those fiddly things like dash warning / automatic gear selected lights etc are left to nut out.

Minor update, spent most of the day tracing out the loom of the jzs171 and am very confident that when i drop it in it should start.

Also spent a couple of hours degreasing / washing down the engine bay to make it look that smidge better.
