Alternator is all fixed, got a reco one with a 24 month warranty and its perfect. It has a new reg in it. Charge light has disappeared now.
Next thing is to change the radiator hoses, heater hoses and vacuum lines over to new ones.
Cheers mate.
The vacuum lines are actually very nice and flexible still, they just have this white mildew on them. I'm going to replace them anyhow as it will look a million times better than cleaning them.

If you're looking at heater hoses and radiator hoses, Mackay and Gates don't have listings for RA65, so just use RT142 Corona or get genuine. I think I managed to do my heater hoses with some random hose length that was on the shelf at Supercheap cut down to size. They're a pretty basic shape to match.
Reconditioned alternator sounds good!
Yes I already asked the Repco guys and there are no listings except one heater hose from Mackay. Id have though Genuine would be unavailable by now? Have you bought genuine ones?
Nah, I just got Mackay rubber listings for RT142 Corona for the rad hoses and managed to make two out of the three heater hoses from a random off-the-shelf hose at Supercheap. The top radiator hose is probably like 1/2" short, but there's still more than enough meat to get a good, solid seal. Bottom hose was fine for fitment, except that the coolant neck off the timing case on mine has a hole in it, so it still leaks. Joy.
I didn't enquire about genuine ones, but they may still be available.
Cool, thats what Im doing this morning. I need a few basics, wiper blades, vacuum hoses, some degreaser, proper detailing stuff (which I've never owned haha), Radiator hoses, heater hoses, and some fresh hose clamps.
Dont want to risk killing my 90000k engine. I also noticed last night that the heater isnt heating up, although the switch in the dash feels good, Ill have to see if the tap has seized on the engine bay side, as all the stock heater piping is there so it should work.
Just sourced heater hoses, radiator hoses, v belts, vacuum lines, degreaser, plugs, lead and car wash.
Going to show her some love.
Some love has been shown, now it idles better and makes a lot more power. It had a pretty blocked 28 year old fuel filter, and I changed out the leads, and heater hoses, all while cleaning it up as I go. Its looking good. I also replaced most of the poor looking vacuum lines.
Come Monday it will get a coolant flush and a fresh set of radiator hoses, followed by Toyota coolant. Bit bummed about the heater core having a hole, I pumped some water into it as a test and it leaked. Clearly that was why it was bypassed and not because someone didnt know how to reconnect, oh well, it was worth a shot.
Bit of a bummer, but at least they appear in wrecking yards often enough that it shouldn't be too much of a drama. Good work!
Thanks!
Got up early for a Sunday and changed the plugs, then went for a test drive around the block and found it drove about the same, but at least it doesn't have 10+ year old plugs in it now. I noticed yesterday after a brief bleed, when the car was warming up it must have had an air lock cause the temp went up to the start of the red, but then jumped back down when the thermostat cycled moments later. This kind of worried me at the time, got me thinking it might have a BHG, especially when I stopped and found lots of small bubbles coming out of the raidator, but thankfully after a little bit they petered out, I think its just the hard to bleed bypassed heater loop I did that's releasing its air slowly. but it makes more sense today as even with it all bled, the thermostat was still slow to open. So Ill be swapping it out today for sure, cheap peace of mind.
Then its pretty sorted aside from the cleaning it needs and it can go in for the cooling flush and service.
About the only other thing Id like is a mild grunty cam for it.
