yeah makes no sense as you can purchase a unregistered car as well. Must be because previous owner broke the law and something legal like that

irony is 4 of the cars in that pic we took at raleigh got sold, 2 that sold at the same time have both been defected... I wonder if the other 2 will suffer the same fate

Could you not cash in the rego. Then the new buyer re-register it with new plates
pretty sure that loop hole closed many years ago and defects stick to the vin not the plates. a new vin number however….
