Default flat-spot from idle. what could cause this??

    Car - AE86 ADM 1983

motor - 4AGE Smallport motor, Bigport ECU and Loom

use - preventing dust falling on the garage floor

problem - No where to plug in the o2 sensor

occurs/started when - noticed it when I did the engine conversion, trying to fix it now!

personal situation - want to get my 4age purring

    Hi guys,

I'm trying to wire in my O2 sensor on my 4AGE

It's a JDM 4AGE Bigport loom and ECU in a ADM ae86. I suspect the loom and computer are from a AA63, for reasons below...

The engine starts up and runs ok, but not great. I'm looking into everything that could be causing this (missing o2 sensor, getting injectors cleaned, checking fuel pressure etc)

Looking around the engine bay, I could not find anything where the o2 sensor plugged in, so I turned my attention to the ECU.

The ECU part number is 89661-14061

It has AA63 written on it in pen, and according to my research, that ECU came out in the AA63 and ATA141 in Japan.

According the the pin-outs at Club4ag, the o2 sensor wires into the 2nd wire in the 18-pin plug (starting from top-left, looking

    at the ECU).

Here is a photo of my 18-pin plug. There is no wire there at all......

Can anyone confirm 100% that this is where I need to wire the o2 sensor to? Anyone know if the AA63 or ATA141 didn't have an O2 sensor at all?? I have a spare JDM ECU I might swap to if needed (89661-12150), but that still doesn't help me about the missing wire.

    Thanks!
    Andrew.

O2 sensor wont cause the engine to run better assuming that your engine is currently running like shit. What is the problem you are having?

I wouldn't try swapping ecu's until you can make sure both have near identical pin outs for everything else.

It appears AA63 ran an 02 sensor.

Here is a video of the car running.

It has a mad flat-spot from idle, but revs ok once you get past it (at the end of the video)

Any ideas to what could be causing it?

In the vid it was idling at 1500rpm, cause I hadn't wound down the idle screw since cleaning the throttle body.

I just did that a while ago, but it makes no difference... the flat-spot is still there from idle.

Just checked again. It jumps around a little, but more or less 10 degrees.

What could be causing to to choke off idle? Lack of Fuel? Air leak? Wrong TPS??

I would lean toward TPS issues, they are finicky pricks at the best of times.

Is that timing without the terminals bridged?

If so, it should really be 15-20 at idle. Try advancing the timing.

Also if a tps issue, just unplug and see if it works any better...
