    Default No spark.

Ok so i got a smallport in a ADM 86

i currently have no spark ive checked and replaced my dizzy and ive got 2 computers ive been swapping around to try things ... but still no spark
and all my wiring has just been completed and checked over by an auto elec.

i just want to know if the igniter needs to be earthed threw its body? with the ignition on i get a current flow from its body to earth. so i think it might need to be earthed.

and on a 200 scale my coil pack tested at 01.1 where the 4A-GE manual says it should be 0.41-0.51

    would you say its fucked?

    thanks
    Daniel

Yes, a Toyota igniter needs the body to be earthed.

What coils and igniters do you have?

    Given power to the ecu?

EFI main pins on the ecu need 12V ignition (pin B+ and B1+). Also make sure you have the battery wire on the ecu connected.

yep i have power at the ecu and i had to change my dizzy because the ecu wasnt receiving the signal to tell the igniter to tell the coil to spark.

    3 main things

    dizzy pick up's
    ignitor pack.
    Coil.
    ECU.

im not sure what you have done yet. so ill just say what i would do.

1.unplug main HT lead at dizzy end and place it so it can ark to metal. crank engine - spark or no spark or weak spark?

    2. check resistance of that main HT lead.

    3. Check the connecetor that plugs up to the dizzy tail. (continuity etc)

    4. test - Dizzy pickups + coil + ignitor

    5. make sure coil and ignitor have a clean earth ( earth points are very important IMO)

    Diag manual here -

Just a thought ...why dont you ring the person you advertise for in your sig? If they really do specialise in 4a's of all kinds they would have to know whats wrong.

the person i advertise in my sig is my work... lol, i have been talking to my boss who has been to toyota school for the 4A-GE and he has just been saying check the same things as what i already have.
but im now thinking that maybe my igniter could be faulty so im hopeing to borrow one from a mate and check it out. because everything else is working i have power everywhere everything is earthed coilpack and dizzy are both good now. i just need to test the igniter i have checked that it has 2 power feeds in it and after talking to the auto sparky who did my wires he said if i have 2 wires with power there then its one of 2 things ... igniter or ECU. but i have 2 ecu's and have tryed them both, so by process of elimination it should be the igniter is crapped out.
