For those wanting smallport gze pistons, stick to standard size as you will have a hard time finding the oversized ones (you most likely wont find them in australia unless someone has some stashed away).

well i have a smallport oil squirter that has perfect standard sized bores
i have AW11/AE92 AGZE pistons (mass dish ones) so with the head and block decked would i be able to get compression to 8.5-9.0? or will i need to shave the head, if so how much roughly?
if i get a cometic head gasket it will effect the C/R?

Have you modified those pistons to suit the oil squirter block? The skirt will probably foul on the oil squirters as later model pistons have a clearance for them.

didn't know it would be an issue, so the bottom edge will need to be machined down?

a piece of the skirt needs to come off.

Another thing to keep in mind is there is 3 sizes of 81mm piston

i would not play games with decking blocks to fiddle with compression. make a trip to your local toyota parts dealer and order ae101 pistons if you want more comp. $80 for brand new pistons cant be beat. leave it all as toyota engineers designed.

I've head bad things about cometic head gaskets and bleading between the cylinders etc...

    As for the actual build...

Use arp bolts / studs etc
Pistons / Rods depend on boost
Bearings I've had good experience with King
Headgasket / never had issues with the standard one
(h/g should only be blown if something is wrong best blowing a gasket than warping your head)

Though the most important aspect of this build is the tune. No point having all the good bits and a dodgey tune as it won't last long.

Also an important thing to note that all 16V 4a's use the same head gasket. (obviously some revisions between models, but the replacing part no. for the early ones is the same as the ae101 4agze one)
