Default Opinions please - chassis rail pics - damaged?

    Folks,

I am looking at a AE86 to buy and had a friend in Sydney look at it and take heaps of pics - thing is the Chassis rails we are scratching our heads as to whether the shape is normal or if they have been bent.

Hoping those with AE86's can compare these pics and tell me if the non-squared off look is normal. They seem to have rounded edges and a wave in the flat sections both pics are of the rails where they meet the firewall

Funny thing is the front section of the rails look straight and I'd have thought they'd bend in an impact before the rear section of the rails.

    So hoping its all normal

Does look damaged. I'd say don't buy it if you have second thoughts. Rather wait for it and when it comes you will know if it's the right ones. Kinda like picking a girlfriend

depends on the price. it is hard to tell if its bent just from looking at it. but with all the adjustable gear that you can get these days i'd say if it was a little bent you will never notice.
so if the rest of the package is ok i wouldnt worry too much about it

Yep has bent rail(s) (or repaired).

Probably has been repaired before, but the evidence at the rear of the rail is still there (fairly hard hit/direct frontal impact). Its just that the rear part of the rail has some internal stuff that is a little hard to fix (and causes those creases).

one looks a little bulged but hard to see in the pics, the flat spot is a compression point not damage, they do not have straigh rails they bulge out around the engien xmember bolts they are straight in the wheel arch and u will be able to tell if you look behind the wheel as it should all be flat!

Talking about the rear of the rail near the firewall. Should be flat with no wave or ripple. I'll try and get a pic of the rails on mine since the engine is out
