Hey bud. Cars looking good for a noob job. But with the paint. I would be staying away from the acrylic paints, yes they can come up good but u will be buffing it every 2 weeks to stay shinny. Even tho it is ur first spray job. I would be going for 2pac paint. 2pac paint isn't that expensive, maybe lil bit more the acrylic, but once it's done will last for ages. If u just want a solid gloss colour (non metallic or pearl) u won't need a clear coat either. 3 or 4 even coats over the whole car will be heaps aswell. If u want me to go into more depth and detail pm me. Tired of typing into phone haha

Anyone have an EFI tank setup, 16V extractors or a ae92 thermostat housing laying around I could buy? I'll be going around to wrecking yards on saturday for stuff if nobody here has them. I'll post in the forsale section as well

You know, I was very close to using 2pac paint. If I had of seen this post before I Spent like $300-$400 on this paint already you probably would of convinced me to do it. The only reason why I went for the acryllic over 2pac is that i heard that if you fuck it up, like get runs in it or whatever (like i did a little on the rear) its a lot harder to fix.. I basically didn't have much confidence that I would do a good job with the 2pac paint... Thanks for the advice, I don't really know what I'm doing here haha but I'm learning a lot from my mistakes. Is it too late to go 2pac over the primer that I have? that would mean I need a sealer over the primer i think... I might be wrong... I might do it again maybe after the motor goes in and think of this paint job as a practice run when i save up enough cash may as well continues seeing as i hav like everything to complete the job except for clear coat...but then i still don't know if i need one or not. to be honest at the moment i want to get this 16V in and go sideways, so money probs will be spent on the conversion mostly for now anyway. Next paint job will defo be in 2pac

Thanks a lot & to everyone else who has replied, I didn't really expect this much feedback. Cheers guys!

Fuck u could of easy paid for 2 PAC with that moni lol. Trick is to not go to auto shops to buy paint. Go to ur local smash repairs/ spray painter and ask them to order it. Even if they put there lil mark up on it for some moni there pocket it's still pretty cheap. But yeah if u wanted to do it in 2 pac ur either gotta take all the acrylic off or there is this primer u can get that sticks to acrylic with out a chemical reaction. But I think thats the expansive part lol. Also just to throw a spanner in the works. If ur goin to paint plastic parts u will need plastic primer. Maybe not with acrylic paints but definatly with 2pac. But that's only over the bare plastic areas. If u need a hand pm me lol. If u was in the area I would offer a hand but where in different states haha

Okay so i bought this 4age smallport was buffalo road wreckers $880 but talked them down to $800 wit my mad skillz. Awesome that it came with all the bits too, power steering etc, looks like it's already got an external thermostat setup too, Was told it was from an ae92 who had only 1 owner, they bought it when it was new, done 135,000k's on it, her son drove the car and smashed it up then she took it to get wrecked... so this 1 should be in good condition if they tellin the truth, checked the oil and the oil cap and it looked pretty clean so hopefully it's a good one. came with ecu too but as u can see in the pics the guys there cut the loom at the firewall.() so i'm up for a good couple of hours of soldering.

My understanding of putting a FWD 4A-GE in my 4A-C powered AE86 on a budget:
if there is any easier or cheaper ways of doing this, any tips etc, if someone could expand on some things that will be the hardest it would be much appreciated as I've never swapped an engine before. Thanks mainly to haveaparty for getting me on the right track here, thanks to everyone on the forums and thanks to the search function!

put a dizzy in it, Take your oil filler cap off, and turn the crank with a spanner until u see a dent on the cam shaft. Then on the dizzy, line the two dots up and that's the way in the motor it goes.

make sure thermostat housing is external(like mine) to the engine so you can pipe it to the radiator. you can use one from an ae92. the thermostat side of the plumbing should be connected to the bottom radiator tank.

solder the loom back together - match all the colors and shrink wrap each of the joins

drain the gearbox and pull out the tailshaft from gearbox, undo the bolts to crossmember make sure you have the 4age clutch assembly like I do and leave/put it on the 4age with a new spiggot bearing for your 4age crank (like $7)

use a hoist to take out the 4a-c and the gearbox

move the 4ac engine mounts, gearbox, and oil pressue sender to the 4age, keep the starter motor from 4ac(optional for spare), leave the 4age alternator on

either remove the 4age power steering unit or get all the other bits to make it work(optional)

drop the 4age in bolt up tranny to crossmember and do the engine mounts, slide in the tailshaft again

feed the loom through firewall and connect it to the computer, connect the ecu power source to ignition fuse(powered on with your reds) and ground it to chassis

get an ae82 4age fuel tank and swap the tanks or drop in a vl turbo fuel pump and run new fuel lines. not sure about what wiring needs to be done here (if any) probably simple

flush your old radiator, make sure it is not blocked and get thermos, or a thermo/radiator from hyundai excel will bolt in. hook up the thermos to the stock 4age auto temp switch and battery with a relay

Get a 4age MAP sensor and hook it up

get an oil cooler and hook it up (optional)

to make the cam belt visible, remove the top half of cam belt cover only so you can still see timing marks and cut the bottom bit from the lower belt cover to stop gunk from building up (optional)

Get aftermarket extractors to fit in as the 4A-C RWD or the 4A-GE FWD headers will not clear something i think.

    turn the key

get rid of the 4ac if the engine runs
