My red sprinter has been off the road for a few months (headgasket) but i fixed it last weekend. It has a shitty 4AC SOHC.....
Today is the second time i drove it since fixing it. I drove to work, 15km.....
When i got there, i could smell what i thought was brakes, but sniffing around, it was coming from the clutch. When i drove home tonight, the smell was even stronger.
    Now,
    1. It's a 4AC, i dont thrash the gearchanges (drive granny style)
    2. Clutch didn't seem to be slipping......

How can it smell if it's not slipping?
    any ideas?

    maybe it is slipping,.

clutch and brakes smell the same.....

if you change from 1st to 4th at bout 30km/h and floor it, does it start slipping then.

you may just have a problem with the hydraulics, ie the slave is not releasing fully and its keeping a little amount of pressure on the pressure plate.

try bleeding the system, and while your under the car, check to see the fork movement and if its releasing all the way. if not, then either the pedal needs adjusting or the hydraulics need an overhaul

the rubber boot/cover on the clutch fork was twisted and the clutch wasn't releasing properly....
