who makes the bellhousing that Dave is going to supply?
sorry I don't have any answers for you rquestions but I am looking into finding out and writing a faq article on it.
hey guys,
Iam going to be putting a W58 into my AE86 in a few weeks and iam just wondering if there is anything i need to know about doing the conversion.
Now, i thought this would be a common topic in the tech articles section but the search wont let me search for w58 (too short) and i didn't find anything when i had a browse....
Anyway, apart from a custom g/box mount, what else do i need to know. The engine is a smallport 4AGTE (previously GZE) and iam going to get a bellhousing off AJPS to suit.
So, iam really just wondering what flywheel and clutches i need to use, and other stuff like bearings and forks etc.....
Any info is much appriciated,
Thanks guys,,
J

yeah ill be interested in the clutch as well .
can you get a custom clutch to fit the w58 box and use the standard 200mm flywheel?

i wish i had enough money for a freaking corolla
i will be doing a w50 to my gze, ive been told my standard gze flywheel and clutch will do the job (same box spline ) and using the bellhousing adapters from niteparts etc. Aparently some of the bellhousings need a tiny bit of a clean up with a dremel to fit the standard gze flywheel inside. Dunno much more than that tho. If your using the stock flywheel why don't you use one of the adapters biggo used, uses the t50 bellhousing with a sandwich plate, much cheaper.
see here
When i did mine i did this
Nite parts bellhousing (get one if you can worth the money)
w series shifter fork
4a throwout bearing
Extreme 212mm 3.9kg fly wheel chrome molly
Extreme clutch package, 4 puk sprung centre plate with s series splines, 4a pressure plate (see ajps)

Remember when going to W5x you'll probably need a new tailshaft. Considering you've got a 4AGTE you're probably looking at enough power to justify getting a new one made and not just butchering a stock one. Gearbox crossmember is a big one too, most commonly people make one themself (it's easy enough with a welder). Have heard whisperings that a RA6x Celica crossmember (one that come with a W5x on it originally) should only need a couple of holes redrilled to be suitable.
Make sure you have a clutch fork pivot too...
Oh yeah, if you haven't already, make sure you have a spigot bearing (I think that's what it's called, it's the one that goes in the flywheel). FWD 4A engines don't have them, RWD boxes need them. Just go down to repco and ask for one to suit a standard 4AC powered sprinter, as the hole for it in the flywheels are all the same, no matter what 4A flywheel you're using. (as far as I know!)
