There is a alloy sensor/water block at the back of the head, that has 2 temp sensors in it. One is the main water temp sensor fo the computer. The other is a funny thermo-time or similar sensor that may have more to do with cold start. Either way, the water temp sensors are the main thing to trigger the cold start functions. Air temp sensor plays a part to a lesser degree.
There is a 5th injector in the plenium of course that is ment to work when cold. Maybe you have a vsv thing that also increases idle speed?
For the O2 sensor, I am guessing most old types with just 1 wire, that work from 0- 1volt are the type you want.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Jonny Rochester @ May 19 2008, 09:16 PM) </div>sorry to hijack the thread. quick question, what would the advantages of a wide band 02 sensor be? what cost/benefit ratio would you say it is to have one?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (yoshimitsu9 @ May 20 2008, 04:56 PM) </div>For stock ecu then yes i would use it, some people choose not too, but i hear mixed response as too wether its effective with stock ecu or not. Will make stock ecu run better
Oh and a ae82 EFI 4age 02 sensors works with jdm exshaust manifold and ecu
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (FKN16v @ May 20 2008, 06:56 PM) </div>i figured it would be a good thing, because of its real time air/fuel ratio adjusting. whereas the standard narrow band o2 sensor takings like 10 seconds to adjust. though i figured out id be better off with either of the 2 because my car doesnt run like it should without an o2 sensor
i was looking at this website but i don't know whether it is actually worth forking out the $500 odd for it, i mean i would if i was doing a 4age + t conversion, from my research indicates a large number of people in the US are using wideband o2 sensors as a safety measure meanwhile being able to get some rediculous power figures and boost levels on standard internals
does the sensors to the throttle body for warming have anything to do with it?
What sensors are you looking at?
There is ment to be 2 water/coolant hoses going to the throttle body. A lot of people don't have these hooked up, and it won't make much difference. But it's a good idea if your chasing small problems.
There is ment to be a little vacuum hose from the throttle body to the charcole canister. Again, you don't need this to make the engine run good.
The TPS on the throttle body? Yes, this is very important. Make sure its connected and it works.
If you have power steering, there is 2 little vaccum hoses from the throttle body to the pump. This is only needed to idle up the motor when you are steering.
In a similar way, you may have a vsv to idle the motor up with A/C on. ANd I think there is a VSV in any case, to control idle?
Which sensor is the one that controls cold start timer function(which coloured plug, green or brown?)? I would look at ecu pin outs/wiring diagrams but would still need to go back to the car![]()

The "switch, start injector time" sensor is the one to the right, in the sensor block at the back of the head. I think these have the part number written on them also.
The sensor to the left is the regular water temp sensor used by the ecu.
There is another water temp sensor on the front of the motor, but that controls your gauge only.
cheers so in this pic below its the brown plug?
