<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (FKN16v @ May 20 2008, 06:56 PM) </div>i figured it would be a good thing, because of its real time air/fuel ratio adjusting. whereas the standard narrow band o2 sensor takings like 10 seconds to adjust. though i figured out id be better off with either of the 2 because my car doesnt run like it should without an o2 sensor

i was looking at this website but i don't know whether it is actually worth forking out the $500 odd for it, i mean i would if i was doing a 4age + t conversion, from my research indicates a large number of people in the US are using wideband o2 sensors as a safety measure meanwhile being able to get some rediculous power figures and boost levels on standard internals

You can't just use a wideband sensor with a stock ECU. The AE86/AE82 O2 sensor would be putting out a signla of 0-1volts. The 5 wire wideband sensor puts out a 5volt signal from memory. So the signals are not compatable without a trick electronics box.

I have a wideband sensor with its own stand alone box and display. I use this as a portable device to tune any car I'm working on. For people interested in such things, you can also get a similar kit to perminently have in your car, as a display.

ECU's that actualy use a wideband sensor at MoTeC, Autronic, Adaptronic and a few others, and some new VW.

As for using a 5 wire wideband sensor, via trick box to change the signal to 0 - 1volt, to be used by a old Toyota ECU, hmmmm... just outside of my experience and knowledge. It may work.

Sounds like alot of work Johnny for very little result.

What benefits are there using a wideband just to revert it back to normal.

Is there anysort of tunability with it, i wouldn't think so.

Stock ecu wouldn't (I'm no engineer but) rely heavily on the 02 sensor anyways so how would altering the signal make a difference. Not like stock ecu can be tuned in anyways.

Leave it as stock id say.

if you know more than me about this (anyone) please feel free to correct me but:

the 4AGE runs in open loop (that is, doesnt care what the oxy sensor says) unless you are cruising

the cold start injector is totally uneccassary in Australia.

My engine has never run a CS injector or oxy sensor (tried to hook one up but there was no wire in the ECU loom for it, and i couldnt be bothered making up a shielded cable to go to it) and has always run fine. air temp sensor made it run way better than none though

    <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (RoadSailing @ May 20 2008, 10:15 PM) </div>Open loop yes sounds about right

CS not needed, ive never tried, but sounds viable. Its mearly used to get the engine up to temp quickly, also cooler air is dence so more fuel needed.

Ecu doesnt rely heavily on the 02 sensor, hence why you can run with out it, it more used too fine dial the fuel and ignition maps within stock parameters. i bet if you pluged up the 02 sensor your engine would sound quieter out the exhaust. Seen and heard it with my own eyes and ears.

Might be alittle more responsive too. do you loose or gain power with or without 02 sensor, well if you did the difference would not be much.

were is the air temp sensor located? as for the o2 sensor i have noticed that it will lean out in top end and over fuel in lower rpm

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Jonny Rochester @ May 20 2008, 09:22 PM) </div>damn, i can't find the website now. i was looking at these just last week, a in-car wideband monitor that has a 1 volt output for wiring back up to the ecu.

On a bigport its a round yellow plug near the breather pipe on intake manifold. On small port its a round grey plug i think.
