    Hey guys

Ive got a minor issue with my 4ac - 4age conversion for my sprinter.

Basically I had to get second hand t50 gearbox from a old t18 rolla because the original was just too worn out. Now obviously i figured out the bellhousing were different, not a problem, just swapped them over.
However now the gear shift doesnt line up with the hole and it sits too far forward.
Could this be because I used the 4ac engine mounts and the 4age is now sitting too far forward in the engine bay? I can't really think of anything else myself.

    Suggestions please?

    Cheers
    Russ

The t-18 box is a shorter box from bellhousing to shifter. Your tailshaft won't go in either.

I should of mentioned ive got a t18 tailshaft and diff aswell.

I believe the bell housing on the t18 is longer? this appears to be the problem i guess since obvious it means with the original bellhousing its now too short....?

actually the shifter position should be the same.

are you sure you don't have a ta22 box?

If you know what the original sprinter shifter setup looked like, you can tell if you have a TA22 gearbox as they have a different shifter setup.

My understanding when i purchased it was it was a t18 box.

But as I said, with the original S series bellhousing on there, it doesnt match up and the shifter is short of the hole.

It seams your new gearbox is from a old TA22 Celica.

The solution is to take both gearboxes apart and swap all the bits you want into the one assembly. You will want the AE86 rearward shifter housing. To swap all this over, you may have to punch a few rolled pins out to swap the selectors over. It is not too hard. You won't need a press or anything.

Just put it back together with silicon. But there is 1 or 2 ball bearings to be carefull of.

So things like the bearings etc will still go in correctly on the old S series t50?

The problem with the old one was that the Reverse and 5th Gear was too worn and the bearing were getting pretty bad too.

Reverse and 5th? No need for those in a sprinter... lol.
But everything should be fine if you change the sets over.
