it's only an overheat warning light,that comes on if the cat is blocked and cooking up. there's no real point in connecting it.
if you really want to,you'll need a sensor out of something imported (S13,celsior etc),and wire it up to switch the warnign light on on the cluster if it trips,which will only happen if the cat collapses...
why even run a cat on an ae86? they're not required.

The factory cat out of an ae82 twincam has the sensor in it so you could get it from that one if you really want it.

cheers for the info
i would like it conected just because i like everything to work! seems like a waste if the gauge is there and not connected. if i get one of these sensors from a 92 does it go in the exhaust pipe before the cat, after the cat or in the cat its self???
has anyone actually got theres working?

i would think they would go in the cat itself just before the honeycomb as this is where it would heat up if it was blocked
and as my exhaust guy said it could be argued that a cat isn't necessary on 83/84 model 86's.
i don't use a cat and the car *ae86 4age* is as quiet as any turbo car with a silencer on its exhaust...but after 4000, music to my ears =]
Cat is a part of the engine according to the authorities.
So
4ac = no cat needed
4age = cat NEEDED
I have heard of the EPA using infared temp guns to determine if you have hollowed out your cat, I guess the test before the cat, on the cat and after it and then temps compared?
I still reakon its a pretty cool thing to have, gotta love those crazy japs and their 80s engineering.
Would be good to get it working for the everything works factor and looks cool, but don't think u would want to see it come on tho so really whats the point?
if you wanna see it without hooking it up, just wire your handbrake to it instead/with your brake light
