I've got a stock bigport 4age (ae92) that was running fine then the engine just cut out. Now when ever you start it, it will run for a short but random amount of time before dying. Doesnt make a difference warm or cold. Now if I unplug the map sensor it starts and idles and everything. So i bought a new map sensor, no change, same problem.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be? ECU developed a fault?

Secondly can I run the engine safely without a map sensor? It seems fine to me just revving it.

Theres a drift day on saturday i'd like to goto, so fairly urgent.

without a map it will be ludicrusly rich, but yeh itl still rev ok.

It may be a fuel supply issue. injectors may need a clean, fuel line filters ect.

Was your tank low when it cut out? it sometimes helps to find out the exact circumstances when it first faulted.

Tank wasnt low. Fairly certain its not a fuel issue. Why would it run fine without a map sensor?

check error codes, could be fault to knock sensor (these bigports had them).

Engine should run in limp mode with map sensor unplugged so something is definately wrong. Without a map sensor, it wont rev past 4000rpm :/

I read that somewhere else. But it still revs over 5k with map sensor unplugged. Anywho it doesn't matter. I've given up, i'm sick of this shit. Thanks for your help guys.
