Anyone know if the GZE flywheel is too small to be used with the 4AC starter?
A mate of mine asked me to post this question up for him. He's just dropped a 16 valve bigport 4age in his ke70 and is having problems with the starter motor.
The starter is turning over but it's not turning the flywheel for some reason? There are no grinding noises or anything like that and he's not sure whats happening.
He's using a GZE flywheel/clutch setup with a 4AC starter motor if that makes nay difference?
Any help much appreciated![]()

best thing is to check it out and pull it apart and see if the 4ac starter mates up with the flywheel ..
my advice would be to get rid of the 4ac starter and go for a 4age 100kw starter out of a ae92 gti .. they are smaller and have more inital torque ... or you could always just go for your standard bigport starter motor either one will work..
what size is te flywheel?

Are you 100% sure that the FWD starter will work? Unsure what size the flywheel is, I will try and find out.

The problem with the GZE flywheel is that its too big, wont work in RWD config. Find a 200 or 212mm flywheel and clutch.

The gze flywheel has the same ring gear as all other 4a manual fly wheels. They work in rwd config with appropriate modifications (including shaping/machining of pressure plate and special pressure plate bolts, some minor brush ups of T50 bellhousing and a custom clutch plate).
4ac starter should work still, im using one.

So without doing these mods this is most likely the cause of the problem right?
without doing those, the box will not go on.
I doubt its a gze clutch setup, its mostlikely a smallport/20v clutch setup.
