Default Putting a 4age into an ADM sprinter - A couple quick questions.

    CAR - ADM Sprinter
MOTOR - Initially a 4AC - converting to a 4age smallport. Smallport is complete and already in RWD configuration, including intake, loom, ECU and oil-cooler setup.
    USE - streeter

Hey guys, just trying to get my head around this conversion.
(When I say conversion, I started without an engine in the car, so am probably missing some pieces.)

I've searched through the forums, and want to confirm a few things.

1: The fuel setup. It's my understanding that in order to run the 4age, I will need to run either a JDM fuel tank, or an in-tank setup/external setup. Is this correct?

2: When converting, are there any mechanical parts that I definitely CAN'T use?
For example, clutch and brake setup (master/booster etc.) I figure they're completely independent from the engine itself, correct?

I have the driveline sorted, with a T-50 through to a T-series diff.

Basically, are there any extras required in order for me to get the 4age in and reliably running apart from what I already have?

I'm pretty much new to the mechanical world. Is it harder than putting a 5k-c into a ke70? Because I successfully did that, haha.

    Thanks in advance!

If there was no engine in the car, check that you have the sandwich plate that goes between the gearbox and the engine, also check if you have the gearbox stays that connect the lower half of the engine to the box.

1: Correct, either use a JDM fuel tank with the in-tank EFI pump, or find a way to fit an EFI pump into your ADM tank, or keep your ADM tank and use either and in-tank or external lift pump that feeds a surge tank and an external EFI pump. Keep in mind 4AGE fuel pressure is regulated at about 40psi, so no need to go crazy with the fuel pumps, something like a VL lift pump and VL EFI pump combo would be good.

2: Smallport clutches are 212mm, whereas 4AC clutches are 200mm, so you cannot use the 4AC clutch if that's what you're asking (unless the smallport engine has been fitted with a 200mm bigport flywheel). The rest of the clutch and brake system is fine, however you may need to use a banjo bolt on the slave cylinder so that the clutch line clears the headers.

4AGE swaps are 9000 times harder than a 5K swap in a KE70, you can't even compare the two haha.

1: yes. Cheapest way is to get an inline pump and mount it underneath somewhere.
2: if the shell is a manual shell and has pedal box and clutch master and line, and the t50 u are using has the adm bell housing, then it will bolt up no worries. (Adm bell housing has slave on passenger side, JDM is drivers side)

only thing different about the 5k swap is this needs the engine harness wired up and has hydraulic clutch slave.

Ah, thanks for the concise replies!

I will have to double check on the sandwich plate front. But I'm 99% sure I have it, as the engine was complete with clutch and flywheel bolted onto it already. Have to double check the gearbox stays, as it was purchased separately. Set on Yahoo auctions for $25ish.
Had already read about fuel pump options in the other threads and stickies, haha. Just needed a confirmation if it was completely necessary or if it was a performance option. Cheers!

Yep, shell was a manual shell and I ordered a clutch slave cylinder through a reputable source not long ago to suit my gearbox. All good on that front. I do a LOT of reading before getting halfway through a job and finding things out the hard way. Hence me asking these questions.

Make sure the sandwich plate is a rwd one (should have a round base/1piece, not flat/2 piece for fwd setup). Basically if you can see the flywheel when lookin from the front of engine you have the wrong sandwich plate.

That is a fwd one. Not good unless you want things going inside your flywheel area

You want to know the worst part about that?
I'm not even surprised. Bought it off the dodgiest bloke going. Ended up having to drive to Sydney to get it, 4 months after payment.
Just gotta suck it up and cut any losses made. Better to have overpaid and come away with something than to have nothing at all.

    Cheers for the help.

What ecu are you running? I'm about to wire 2 with small ports and wouldn't be all that hard to make a 3rd loom up for you if you will use the stock ecu

Stock smallport ECU for now. I have the loom for it already. What's the major differences between the looms you will be wiring, and the standard smallport one?
Just the orientation of the loom in regards to the engine changing to a north-south configuration?
