Default In a toyota again, Adan's next not so average daily driver...the rav4

So Ive been through a couple of cars since getting rid of my ae86. I dont think Ill ever find something Im happy with, but this is where Ive ended up.

I got a work ute, so I hadnt driven my previous daily driver (VW caddy) for a couple of weeks. This instantly said to me that I needed to buy a new car which Id actually want to drive.
I got rid of the caddy, and ended up buying this abomination off gumtree. I dont have any photos of when I first brought it home, but it wasnt too impressive. It hadnt been maintained well, things were loose, it was disgusting inside and Im still trying to figure out wtf is going on with the styling.

But either way, the engine and driveline are in decent condition and it makes a good basis for a decently quick sleeper. And more than likely a good transplant for the next car ill build after I get my garage built.

    Basic specs;

    1999 Toyota Rav4
Hektic wheels with huge tires (255/70/17)
    gen3 3sgte
rebuilt with O/S forged pistons, lots of polished bits
st185 gt4 rear diff, st205 gearbox and front diff
    power fc
3" exhaust with hektic x-force cannons
    short shifter
    kyb shocks, some lowered springs
working aircon and all that jazz
    factory style flares
awful bonnet vents with custom tonneau cover

Basically I just want to neaten it up a bit to drive to the shops in, put a decent muffler on it, make it look stock and get it retuned for 15-20psi. Its only running 5-10psi and is way too rich. It has a dyno chart for around 150awkw, not sure what boost, but it should be a fun car to drive once the tune is sorted out.

Yeah i saw that black one when I saw this come up on gumtree. Sounds like it would be pretty nuts.

Im thinking of going for a gtir bonnet scoop after seeing that one, though on the other hand Id like to have a very stock looking car too.

I havent really driven this car much since getting it, mostly around the block on weekends. I finally got rid of the chrome gearknob though, and started the tidy the engine bay. The wiring is a bit of a feast, so Ill need to slowly get rid of unnecessary crap.
I also had massive misfire problems, so did the dizzy cap, rotor, coil and unplugged everything and cleaned the terminals...the map sensor plug was gummed up. Now it runs even better and doesnt cut out at higher rpm.
Will need to book in for a retune sometime soon and put some proper boost in it, still only running around 10psi.

Oh that looks awesome, this car isn't quite up to that level.

I have had a few bits arrive though, just wanting to make it a decent daily driver for now.
I have a gizzmo ms-ibc ver3 boost controller and 2.5" oval muffler to fit this weekend.
Once I find a colour matched bonnet I'll take it in for a tune as I'm not too confident on the current tune on anything over 10psi

So this has now got a proper rear muffler and gizzmo boost controller installed.
I put a silver bonnet on it today and have a tune booked for next Friday. After that no more money to spend on it and it should be good to clock up some decent km

Yeah so I finally got the car tuned ages ago. Didn't end up getting any power runs seeing the turbo was basically dead...it would only boost 18psi at redline.

Since then we've bought a house and spent lots of time moving and whatnot, haven't had much time for the car, especially with no garage.

But last week I finally fitted a t3/t4 turbo with adapter and new dump pipe. It boosts a million times better, comes on boost very hard around 3500rpm. Just need to get proper boost dialled in and have the tune finished off.
I'm also looking to fit my spare set of s15 wheels to help with the gearing. It seems a bit long geared with the big wheels and tires at the moment...
