I've contemplated the idea of fitting an ej20t (or even makign it twin t ) in an 86 next...

Basiclly to answer your questions of what would be involved and the costs for these things i'll go through the basics...

s2000 or evo 8 engine - not much change out of $8000 for either
    gearbox, something to handle 400hp - $1500
    mounting - $500
    diff upgrade - $1200
    ECU - $2000
    Brakes - $1000
Labor - $3000 (for someone else to do it as it seem you are new to this)

Theres a very quick $16000, and trust me there are alot, and i mean alot, of other things along the way.

If you're after a relatively easy, good power making conversion, start with a 4agze, then turbo it, then twin charge it, then custom build an engine ie. 7age bottom with 20v head etc.

Yeah sure, i've got the handbook right here in my pocket of how to do this conversion, step by step, pics too......

    NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!

For starters, why would you spend all that money, time and hassle, to do a ridiculas conversion with that sort of output............................. when it's gonna be a daily driver. Go figure.....
Second, These cars are good for driving or drifting, and are NOT designed for high speed, lets say 200kph+ (AND I KNOW, I HAVE DONE 240kph IN MINE). So, if you want that much power, What are you gonna do with it. You DONT need that much power for drifting, its been PROVEN FOR 24years now. A 4AGTE is plenty power for Drifting and a reliable monster for a "Daily " , at a fraction of the cost that your conversion idea would be....

And to have that much power in a ae86, you'd want to me a experienced driver, and know how to use the power without killing yourself or someone else......
I could go on and on, but iam not gonna waste my time, this guy obviously has no idea.....

    I reckon his 16

    Peace Out,

22 actually... and I'm thinking about doing this conversion to be a demo car for the shop i'm looking at having setup which will be run by proper mechanics and those who know about modifying... thanks to those of you who aren't so cocky... the rest of you can go fuck yourselves!

7age bottom end 20vblacktop head with supercharger on to the side of it sounds like an awesome idea... thanks TUF 086

If you do go down the mitsubishi path then you can get a good 4G63 engine from any of the earlier evo's or even something like a RVR Hyper sports gear. Going to be a lot cheaper than Evo 8 for much the same thing.
Also, factor in some dollars to bring up to 400hp, as you get 286hp standard, so you will require ecu, bigger fuel pump, exhaust, boost controller etc. Maybe even a turbo swap.
That's if your serious about all this.
